However, unlike the people of the west, the Native Americans did not keep chronological record of their past history.11 Since the Native Americans have no written histories, most of the history about their past come to us in form of stories passed down from their ancestors through generations. In order for the Native Americans to be completely understood their oral traditions must be studied and not cast aside as mere myths legends of an illiterate race. Problems often arise when we consider the use of verbal stories as a means of passing down knowledge due to the fact that over time we lose bits and pieces of a story. It definitely calls into question the reliability of the stories as accurate accounts of history and has caused many researchers to regard oral history as biased accounts compared with the presumed accuracy of the written word. The high regard given to writers also ignores the fact that writers can also be prejudiced in their writings. Though spoken word is much older than written word, the two methods complement each other with their unique attributes. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrigs disease, is a disease of the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement. Jean-Marie Charcot was the first to recognize ALS as a distinct neurological disease with its own unique pathology. In ALS, nerve cells degenerate and deteriorate, and are unable to transmit messages to muscles. In around 90% of the cases of ALS, the cause remains unknown. Studies have concentrated on the responsibility of glutamate in motor neuron degeneration. Glutamate is one of several neurotransmitters in the brain. While there is no known cure for ALS, strides in medicine have allowed for the development of a wide variety of medications to treat the various†¦show more content†¦The predicament of the patient gradually declines. Once the disease progresses to the stage where muscles in the chest area stop working, it grows increasing difficult or nearly impossible to breath. History of ALS Jean-Marie Charcot was the first to recognize ALS as a distinct neurological disease with its own unique pathology (Kumar, Aslinia, Yale, and Mazza 2011). Studies conducted from 1865 to 1869 by Charcot and his colleague Joffroy found that lesions in the interior of the lateral column in the spinal cord gave rise to chronic progressive paralysis and contractures (no atrophy of muscles), while lesions of the anterior horn of the spinal cord resulted in paralysis devoid of contractures (with atrophy of muscles). These discoveries reinforced Charcot’s hypothesis, at the time, was that the motor component of the spinal cord contained a two-part system, and that the location of the lesion results in a varying clinical presentation. Charcot did not propose the term â€Å"amyotrophic lateral sclerosis† until 1874 when his lectures were accumulated into a compilation of his research entitled Oeuvres Completes. As stated by Barber (2010), effective teaching always require proper planning and while planning a teacher decided what to teach and which methods should be adopted for teaching. The factors on which teaching plan and methods depend are syllabus, needs of student learning, that is literacy level and improvement area of a student. In Australia teaching plan is to be decided by taking into consideration national professional standard for Australian teachers (Barber, 2010). The essay is having brief analysis of the factors which affect the teachers plan and methods which they are going to adopt for teaching (Aitsl.edu.au, 2015). Part A Syllabus As recommended by Australian Curriculum Lessons (2014), before planning their teaching plan and methods, teachers of Australia needs to evaluate the syllabus and their students literacy level. In Australia education, curriculum standard and quality of teaching is decided by Board of Studies teaching Educational Standards NSW. Syllabus helps teachers as well as students to know what they are going to teach and on what students have to focus. Again as recommended by Aitsl, syllabus helps teacher in developing proper communication among the students and teacher while teaching process (Yates, 2015). Teachers of Australia before starting main educational course decide syllabus to systematize their thoughts and approach towards their subject or topic. Syllabus helps teachers as well students know the focus area regarding subject (Barber, 2010). The essential elements of good syllabus are as course or subject topic, teaching schedule and plan and methods which teacher would be adopting for teaching. Syllabus decided by teacher help them in providing the framework which will be used in teaching. Yates (2011) commented that teaching process initial step is planning syllabus and providing it to all students so that they can find the area of learning. On the other hand syllabus helps students to know their improvement areas on which they have to focus more and the level of literacy in all the subject or topic which is going to be taught in whole learning process. Student learning needs Australian Curriculum Lessons (2015) mentioned that before deciding the syllabus, it is very much necessary for teacher to analyze the level of literacy of students regarding each subjects and topic which they will include in syllabus. As stated by Barber (2010), every student learning capability is different and the level of literacy regarding subjects and topic are also different of every student, so teacher before starting new learning session should analyze the disability area of each student so that it can be given special attention. Mental level of every student is different from each other, so teacher before planning any learning plan should evaluate each and every student learning disabilities, command over any subject if they are having, favorite subject or topic which they like studying more. Learning session can only be started when teachers are well known with their students learning needs and requirement. Every student has different learning needs and learning requiremen t as their stated by Barber (2010), mental level of each student is different. It is also the fact that learning needs analysis helps both teacher and student to identify their area of interest, improvement and others, every teacher adopt their own methods for leaning needs analysis some common methods used by teacher are 360 degree appraisal method, critical incident review, questionnaire, face to face interview and other (Boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au, 2015). If a teacher is unaware of students learning needs then they cannot plan proper teaching plan. Past assessment data collected by teachers about students As said by Forthe (2012), past assessment data analysis method will help teacher to know students past performance in subjects, it will also help teacher to know about the strength and weaknesses of students regarding the subjects. Past assessment help teacher to know about their students area of interest and the subject which they like more. Lesson plan decided by teachers are dependent of students area of interest, level of literacy of student and disability in any subjects (Yates, 2015). Teachers can collect their students past performance record by evaluating their past class exams, projects and other class activities performance. Forthe (n.d.) stated that if teacher has to plan effective teaching lesson they have to evaluate students past performance outcomes, level of literacy, learning disability and other factors. Past assessment data collected method help teachers to know in-depth about their students and behavior regarding studies which help teacher while planning effective learning session. Collecting past assessment outcomes data will help to decide teachers their priority regarding subjects as per students disability in subjects. As commented by Leonard (2012) to decide present learning plan teachers have to analysis and evaluate the past outcome of students in every subject. Teacher does past assessment data collection to prioritize their subjects and know their students background, interest level in different subjects, level of literacy and other factors. National professional Standards for Teachers National professional standard help Australian teachers in developing their learning plan, practices which they will follow while teaching and other. Every teacher has to follow the standards mentioned by National professional standard of Australia for teaching (Leonard, 2012). As stated by Yates (2015), these standards help teacher to analyze their quality of teaching and the standard, if any disability or lacking behind factor is found teachers can easily change their learning plan. National professional standards for teachers provide frameworks which help them while planning their learning plan and activities (Barber, 2010). It helps teachers in knowing the professional practices, activities, which teacher will perform while their learning process. As mentioned by Mazawi Sultana (2010), learning plan can only be effective and good if it follows all the standards and rules mentioned by National professional Standard for teachers in Australia. National Professional standards for te achers define what Australian teachers have to do to make their learning plan effective for each and every student under them. Different strategies are mentioned by national professional standard which help teachers to design their effective learning plan. National professional standard for teachers work as book of rules and regulation which every teacher and education organization of Australia have to follow. Part B Lesson plan The lesson plan chosen for this assignment is foundation science plan which is as Integrated and Interactive Science Unit. This lesson plan was included in science learning plan to make students aware of all the fields which are related to science and important of science (Mazawi Sultana, 2010). As stated Morphew (2012), integrated and innovative science plan was developed as part of classroom theme. This lesson was included in classroom so that all students are aware of animals, plants and other living things in the environment. The main responsibilities of teacher were to organize different activities and events so that students come to know more about their environment and surrounding. Analysis of above mentioned four factors regarding the selected plan The four factors on which learning plan depend are syllabus, student learning needs, past assessment data collection by teachers and National professional standard for teachers. It is the fact that to make any learning plan effective teacher have to decide proper syllabus after analyzing the students area of interest and level of disability regarding the subject (Nswteachers.nsw.edu.au, 2015). The lesson plan chosen is Integrated and Interactive science unit which is having proper syllabus regarding various subjects as science, technology, mathematics, English and etc. Every subject is having its own focus area and the syllabus or course length is decided as per their focus area. The length of integrated and interactive science unit is of nine weeks in which every student will be assigned with different task, the task allocate will be regarding animals, plants, surrounding and environment (Barber, 2010). The learning plan chosen is focusing all three factors which are as syllabus of the plan, student learning needs and national professional standards for teachers but it is lacking in only one factor i.e. past assessment data collection of students (Yates, 2015). To implement past assessment data collection method by teachers in this learning plan teachers have to initially collect all the data regarding each student from the various social activities conducted in which they participated. As stated by Swartz (2013), past assessment data will help teacher to know the expertise area of each student and later by using this information they can assign activities to them (Splash.abc.net.au, 2015). The activities involved in integrated and interactive science lesson plan are as students will be provided with living and non living thing book which they have to complete and then students have to plant different trees and write down its role in environment protection. Conclusion Teaching plan depends on different factors which are as syllabus of the study, student needs for learning, past assessment data collection done by teachers and National professional standard for teachers (Yates, 2015). Presidential Debate `96 Essays - Conservatism In The United States

Presidential Debate `96 In the 1996 presidential debate, there were many controversial points brought up and discussed by the candidates. There were opportunities to turn the debate into a verbal cock fight, but the President was a model of restraint and Senator Dole simply did not choose to aggravate the president to an extreme. When Senator Dole referred to the `92 debate and how the President referred to Bush as Mr. Bush, not Mr. President, and how he himself would address Clinton as Mr. President, it was evident that Dole was going to debate to make Clinton mad enough to make a mistake. Senator Dole was apparently trying to bring out the beast in Clinton, but he kept cool, while Clinton himself made no offensive remarks to Dole. The questions asked brought about straight answers in the beginning, but towards the end, the candidates were repeating themselves because the questions began to lose focus and seemed to overlap enough to cause an answer similar to if not the same as an earlier one. I do admit, though, that the questions did attack key points and some answers that were given did seriously cause some thought not to where the vote is going, but where it will lead us. The answers given were fairly definitive, and the only topic not seriously touched was scandals such as Watergate, etc. The debate was key in helping me decide a now important part of my life. I have decided that I am a Democrat. I found most of what Clinton had said to be closest to what I believe, but there were a few points where I did agree with Dole. Particularly on the quality of life discussion. Clinton argued that the United States was better off, and Dole agreed, but not exactly. Dole brought up the point that there were around 10,000 bankruptcies filed last year, and that taxes were higher, and people were working harder for the same wages. Another Policy of Dole's that I agree very much with is the Gun Check system. I think that it is an idea that is long overdue. The election this year was not as full of mudslinging as past years, but I think it added to the sanity and constructiveness of the debate. Nothing would get done if the candidates were simply vilifying each other.

Happiness, according to Aristotle is contingent on living a good life. He is a firm believer that good life can only be met if morally right actions are performed until they become habitual. After these actions become a habit, moral virtue can be achieved. I intend to discuss how Aristotle, in his Nicomachean Ethics, analyzes happiness and excellence in relation to moral virtue and the doctrine of mean. Aristotle regards happiness as a final end the final cause of action for a human being. He used the word eudaemonia in a sense which refers to the quality of a whole human life what makes it good as a whole despite the fact a person is not having a blast or a good time every minute of it. A human life may involve many joy, pleasures, successes and it may also involve heartbreaks, sorrows, grieves, troubles and that could still be a happy life. So in other words, happiness is not measured by the pleasures we have nor is it marred by the agonies we suffer. Happiness of man can be defined by determining the function proper to man. The function cannot be one which plants and animals also perform because it must be particular to human beings. Therefore, mans function must be a part of the term practical life of the rational part of man. The term practical here implies purposeful conduct which is possible only for rational beings. Even though past research have justified that genetics plays a critical role in the development of mental illness in the children after birth, such illnesses can also be determined by other biological processes. Such are the biological processes that determine the genetic combinations of genes in a zygote formed by the genetic materials from both parents. This activity entails the selection of an appropriate research design, which will be used in finding answers to the research question on how genetics determine the mental and psychological outcomes of children. There exists a gap in this field of social psychology because there is no recorded empirical evidence that portrays the relationship between genetics and mental illnesses development. In order to investigate this phenomenon, a correlation research design will be employed. This is because it will not be possible to manipulate or control the independent variables of the research. The research design will be appropriate because the independent variables can only be measured. The choice of this research design is based on the initial research ideas in the module two discussion pertaining the relationship between perinatal mental disorders and the risk of developing psychological problems among children : In the module two discussion, several variables were identified, which included perinatal mental disorders, care giving difficulties and social, economic status. The variables were analyzed with a view of ascertaining whether they have any role in influencing the psychological outcomes of children. Since there is no way that such variables could be manipulated, I decided to use the correlation research design in the concurrent research study focused on establishing the connection between genetics and mental illnesses in children. There are two elements that are added for consideration when performing the research study. First, mental disorders always encompass more than one gene. Past research studies have supported that mental disorders are caused by different genes, situated in different chromosomes in different persons. Secondly, the genes associated with mental illnesses do not always illustrate the same level of penetrance among persons. In this case, penetrance is the frequency with which a specified gene develops its effects in a specified grouping of persons. The research design will be implemented by conducting a random survey of women who have had at least one mentally ill child in the past. A questionnaire instrument will be employed to collect data from the women pertaining their knowledge of their genes contribution in the mental illnesses of their children. There will be one principal strategy that I will employ in managing the issue of ethics in the proposed research question. Since mental illnesses in children is a sensitive issue among numerous parents, an open-ended questionnaire will be issued to the research participants. This way, they will be in a position to fill in all responses they are comfortable with, especially those pertaining their mentally sick children.

If Y2K had occurred, modern life would have collapsed into a world of chaos. People would not know what to do with themselves or their families. Three main problems supercede the rest in the amount of chaos they would bring to life; people’s life savings would no longer be accounted for, the government would not be able to monitor the activity of other countries activities, and people would line the streets looting for all they can hold.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The first problem is that people who had worked so hard to save money for their children would have lost all of the money they had saved. The banks keep al of their records on computers and there would be nothing anyone could do to save their money. The people would storm the banks trying to get their money back. People need to have the security of that much money to fall back on in case something happened but when something finally did happen it would not only take away their security but the money they had invested. Americans invest money in hopes to get rich or to have so money put aside for retirement but with no computers they can’t prove that they had stocks in the first place. People would start to get angry and then violent.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The second problem facing this now primitive society is that the government would have no way of knowing if a strike from an adversary was eminent. Any group of people that wished to send a few nuclear warheads wrapped in pretty red bows over to the white house would have no problems doing so. All of our military intelligence would be lost and global chaos would soon follow. People’s insecurity would soon overtake them and they would feel the way Freud explains when he speaks of the â€Å"id† that lives inside of every human being. These wild feelings lead to the third social problem that would develop.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The third problem that would occur almost immediately after the computers shut down is looting. After every major event where the immediate outcome was negative looting soon followed. People realize that all of the things that they never had that they always wanted is at their fingertips. All they have to do is walk down to the nearest store, throw something heavy through the window and suddenly everything is free.

Thea started to let go of Eric. She could still try to save him. But he wouldn't let go. And her own instincts told her to hold on to him. They stood up together, holding each other, facing the Inner Circle as a unit. â€Å"Well,† Mother Cybele said, blinking rapidly. â€Å"Aradia brought us here thinking you might need help. But you've taken care of things yourselves. We saw the end, very impressive.† â€Å"I saw it, too,† Aradia said. Her face was turned toward Thea, the faintest trace of a smile on her lips. â€Å"You did a good job, Thea Harman. You're a true Hearth-Woman.† â€Å"Yes, and where did that last invocation come from?† Gran said, shifting her weight to the cane Rhys gave her. â€Å"I've never in my life heard of anybody calling on their own power as a daughter of Hellewise.† She said it in a grumbling way, but Thea had the strange feeling that she was almost pleased. Thea faced them all. Maiden, Mother, and Crone of the Inner Circle. She was still holding Eric. â€Å"I don't know where it came from,† she said, and was glad to hear that her voice wasn't shaking too badly. â€Å"It just†¦ came.† â€Å"And what about you? What's your name, young man?† Gran said. â€Å"Eric Ross.† Thea was proud of the way he said it, quiet and respectful, but not cowed. Gran looked from him to Thea. And back again. â€Å"You're in this with my granddaughter?† â€Å"He doesn't know anything. ,. .† Thea began, but of course that was hopeless. And ridiculous. â€Å"I know I love Thea,† Eric said, cutting her off. â€Å"And she loves me. And if there's some rule that says we can't be together, it's a stupid rule.† He sounded terribly brave and terribly young. Thea felt a wave of dizziness. Her fingers tightened on his until both their hands were shaking from the pressure. She realized for the first time that her right hand was fairly seriously burned. â€Å"Please let him go, Grandma,† she whispered. And then, as Gran stood silent, â€Å"Please†¦ I won't ever see him again and he won't ever tell. All he's done is try to help me, try to save lives. Please don't punish him for what's my fault.† Warmth pooled in her eyes and spilled over. â€Å"He tried to uphold the law,† Aradia said. â€Å"At least, I think so.† Thea wasn't sure she'd heard right. Gran didn't seem to be, either. She said, â€Å"How's that?† â€Å"Hellewise said it's forbidden for witches to kill humans, didn't she?† Aradia asked, her face serene. â€Å"Well, that spirit was a witch who'd already killed a human-and who wanted to kill more. And he helped send her back. He helped Thea undo the forbidden spell, and he helped prevent witch law from being broken again.† Rhys muttered, â€Å"Neatly put,† but Thea couldn't tell whether that meant he agreed or not. Gran shuffled a step forward, looking at Eric. â€Å"And just what did you do to help, young man?† â€Å"I don't know if I did help,† Eric said in his quiet, straightforward way. â€Å"Mainly I just tried to keep her from killing me-â€Å" â€Å"When did you light the fires?† Thea asked in an undertone, still clutching his hands. He glanced at her. One side of his mouth quirked slightly. â€Å"Nine o'clock,† he said. â€Å"Even though I wasn't there.† Thea's voice was just slightly louder now. â€Å"And you knew Suzanne would come and try to get you, and you didn't have any magic to fight her. So why did you do it?† He looked at her, then at Gran. Then at her. â€Å"You know why. Because otherwise she'd have gone over to the party.† â€Å"And killed more people.† Thea looked at Gran. Gran was staring at Eric, her dark old eyes very keen. â€Å"So you saved lives.† â€Å"I don't know,† Eric said again, maddeningly honest. â€Å"But I didn't want to take the chance.† â€Å"He saved my life, too,† Thea said. â€Å"Suzanne tried to kill me. And I could never have gotten through the spell to send her back if he hadn't kept her distracted.† â€Å"That's nice, but I'm not sure it's enough,† Old Bob said, running a hand over his stubbly chin. His weathered face was quizzical. â€Å"There's nothing that says upholding one law makes up for breaking another. Especially Night World law. We could get in a mess of trouble fooling with that.† Gran and Mother Cybele looked at each other. Then Gran turned to Old Bob. â€Å"I changed your diapers-don't tell me you know more about Night World law,† she snapped. â€Å"I'm not about to let a bunch of bloodthirsty vampires dictate to me.† She looked at the others. â€Å"We need to take this somewhere private. Let's go back to my place.† Somewhere private. Hope kept racing giddily through Thea as the jeep bounced and rattled home. Eric was driving, and Thea was in the backseat, so they couldn't talk. Aunt Ursula was in the front beside Eric. Gran's fighting for me. And Aradia, and maybe even Mother Cybele. They don't want me to die. I don't think they even want Eric to die. But reality kept trying to push the hope away. What can they do? They can't condone a witch and a human being together. They can't risk war with the rest of the Night World, not even to save me. There's no solution. The little caravan pulled up the back alley behind Gran's store. And then Thea was in the workshop again, in the circle of chairs. Creon and Belfana had been waiting. So had Blaise and Dani, who were both sitting down. â€Å"Are you okay?† Dani began, standing–and then she shut up. She was looking at Eric, her dark, velvety eyes huge. A human in the Circle. â€Å"We put Suzanne back,† Thea said simply. She took Eric's hand again. The Inner Circle re-formed around the two of them, witch and human, standing centered. â€Å"We have a situation,† Gran said. And she explained even though most of them already understood the problem. She did it thoroughly, looking at each of the Circle members in turn. Aradia and Mother Cybele sat on either side of her, occasionally putting in a thoughtful remark. Thea figured it out in a few minutes. Gran was recruiting each of them, appealing to them-and showing that the Mother and Maiden both agreed with her. She was working them all over to her side. â€Å"And the end result is, we've got these two,† she said at last. â€Å"And we have to decide what to do with them. This is a decision for the Inner Circle, for the daughters and sons of Hellewise. Not for the Night World Council,† she added, looking at Old Bob. He ran a hand through rough gray hair and muttered, â€Å"The Council might not see it just that way,† But he smiled. â€Å"There was a time,† Gran said, â€Å"when witches and humans got along better than they do now. I'm sure anybody who's gone far enough back with their family tree knows that.† Eric looked at Thea, who shook her head and looked at Blaise. â€Å"She means,† Mother Cybele put in, â€Å"that we used to take human husbands, a long time ago. To make up for the fact that there have never been enough witch men. That was back in the days when there was still the third Circle, Circle Daybreak. The one that tried to teach magic to humans.† â€Å"Until humans started burning us,† Belfana said, her freckled face grave under its coil of deep red hair. â€Å"Well, this one isn't likely to burn anybody,† Aunt Ursula said acidly. At that moment, Thea loved her. â€Å"Nobody is arguing that the laws should be changed,† Mother Cybele said, putting her plump fingers together. â€Å"We can't go back to those days, and we all know the danger from humans now. The question is, is there any way to make an exception in this one case?† â€Å"I don't see how,† Rhys said slowly. â€Å"Not without all of us ending up accused of treason.† â€Å"It'll be the Night Wars all over again,† Nana Bur-uku added. â€Å"Each race of Night People against the others.† â€Å"I don't wish them harm,† Creon said from his wheelchair, his cracked voice barely audible. â€Å"But they can't live in our world, and they can't live in the human world.† And that, Thea thought, sums it up perfectly. There is no place for us. Not while one of us is witch and the other is human†¦. The idea came in a single flash, like the lightning from the balefire. So simple. And yet so terrifying. It might work†¦. But if it did, could I stand it? Would you give up everything? Everything-including Gran and Blaise. Dani and Lawai'a and Cousin Celestyn. Uncle Galen, Aunt Ger-deth. Aunt Ursula†¦ Selene and Vivienne, everybody at Circle Twilight. The smell of herbs, lavender mixed with rose petals. The kiss of cool stones in her palm. Every chant, every invocation†¦ all the spells she'd learned. The feel of magic flowing through her fingertips. Even the memory of Hellewise†¦ Hellewise in her white shift, in the dark forest†¦ Would you give up everything†¦ for peace? For Eric? This time the inner voice was her own. She found herself looking at Eric and knowing she already had her answer. He was so good, so dear. Tender but intense. Smart and brave and honest and insightful†¦ and loving. He loves me. He was willing to die for me. He'd give up everything. Eric was watching her, his gray-flecked eyes concerned. He could tell that something was going on with her. Thea smiled at him. And was so proud to see that even now, surrounded by people who must seem like figures from some horrible legend to him, he could give her a wry half-smile back. â€Å"I have an idea,† she said to Gran and the Inner Circle. â€Å"The Cup of Lethe.† There was a silence. People looked at each other. Gran was startled. â€Å"Not just for him,† Thea said. â€Å"For me.† Long breaths quietly drawn in the silence. Gran shut her eyes. â€Å"If I drank enough, I'd forget everything,† Thea forged on, talking to all the grave faces. â€Å"Everything about the Night World. I wouldn't be a witch anymore, because I wouldn't remember who I am.† â€Å"You'd become a lost witch,† Aradia said. Her lovely face was calm, not appalled. â€Å"Like the psychics who don't know their heritage. And lost witches can live with humans.† â€Å"And neither of us would remember about the Night World,† Thea said. â€Å"So how could we be breaking any laws?† â€Å"The law would be satisfied,† Aradia said. Eric's hand tightened on Thea's. â€Å"But-â€Å" She looked at him. â€Å"It's the only way for us to be together.† He shut his mouth. This silence was very long. Then Blaise, who had been standing with crossed arms, watching, said, â€Å"She told me they were soulmates.† For an instant, Thea thought she was saying it spitefully, to harm. But Gran was turning in surprise. â€Å"Soulmates. That's a notion I haven't heard in a while.† â€Å"An archaic myth,† Rhys said, shifting in his lab coat. â€Å"Maybe not,† Mother Cybele said softly. â€Å"Maybe the old powers are waking up again. Maybe they're trying to tell us something.† Gran looked down at the floor. When she looked back at Thea, there were tears in her fierce dark eyes. And for the first time since Thea had known her, those eyes looked truly old. â€Å"If we did let you do this,† she said, â€Å"if we let you renounce your heritage and walk away from us†¦ where would you go?† It was Eric who answered. â€Å"With me,† he said simply. â€Å"My mom and my sister already love her. And my mom knows she's an orphan. If I tell her Thea can't stay here anymore-well, she'd take her in, no questions.† â€Å"I see,† Gran said. Eric hadn't mentioned that his mom already thought Thea was living in an unstable home with an unbalanced old lady, but Thea had the feeling Gran knew. Another pause, as Gran looked around the Circle. Finally, she nodded and let out a breath. â€Å"I think the girl's given us a way out,† she said. â€Å"Does anybody disagree?† No one spoke. Most of the faces were pitying. They think it's a fate worse than death, Thea realized. Blaise said suddenly, â€Å"I'll get the Cup.† She clashed through the bead curtain. Good. It's good to get it over with, Thea thought. Her heart was pounding wildly. She and Eric were holding hands so tightly that her burned fingers stung. â€Å"It won't hurt,† she whispered to him. â€Å"We'll be sort of confused†¦ but it should come back to us†¦ except anything about magic.† â€Å"You can transfer into zoology,† he said. â€Å"And go to Davis.† He was smiling, but his eyes were full. Dani stepped forward. â€Å"Can I†¦ I'd just like to say good-bye.† She got through that much steadily. Then she choked and threw herself into Thea's arms. Thea hugged back. â€Å"I'm sorry I got you in trouble,† she whispered. â€Å"You didn't-you told them it wasn't my fault. They're not going to do anything to me. But it's going to be so lonely at school without you†¦Ã¢â‚¬  Dani stepped away, shaking her head, trying not to cry. â€Å"Blessed be.† Blaise was back, little bells ringing. She had a pewter chalice in one hand and a bottle in the other. Just seeing the bottle sent a shiver through Thea. The glass was so dark with age she couldn't tell what color it had been originally, and so misshapen it was hard to know if it was meant to be round or square. There was wax over the cork and all sorts of seals and ribbons. Gran broke through the seals, pulled off the ribbons. She tried to twist the cork out of the wax, but Blaise had to help. Then she tipped the bottle above the cup Blaise held. Brownish liquid ran out. Gran poured until the cup was half full. â€Å"When you drink this,† Gran said to Thea, â€Å"you'll forget me. You won't know anyone here. But we won't forget you.† She spoke formally, an announcement before the Circle. â€Å"Thea Sophia Harman, let the record show that you are a true daughter of Hellewise.† She shuffled forward and kissed Thea's cheek. Thea hugged her, feeling the fragile old body for the last time. â€Å"Good-bye, Gran. I love you.† Then Blaise came, offering the cup in both hands. She looked wild and beautiful, her hair a cataract of black tumbling around her, her hands pale around the chalice. â€Å"Good-bye,† Thea said, and took it from her. Blaise smiled. Now, Thea told herself. Don't hesitate. Don't think about it. She lifted the cup to her lips and drank. And choked slightly on the first swallow. It was- it tasted like†¦ Her eyes went to Blaise's. Which were large and gray and luminous. They looked at her steadily. So steadily that it was a warning. Thea kept drinking. Tea. Watered-down iced tea. That was what the Cup of Lethe tasted like. That bottle was sealed-she didn't have time- there was wax on the cork†¦ Thea's mind was churning. But she had enough sense to do one thing-she drank a lot of whatever was in the cup, so there wouldn't be any left over for the Circle to examine when Eric was done. And she kept her face blank as Blaise took the chalice from her and gave it to Eric. Eric drank, looked slightly surprised, and kept drinking. â€Å"Finish it allll,† Blaise said. Her eyes were still on Thea's. And that was when Thea knew for sure. You did it before, when you were first talking about giving human boys the Cup of Lethe after spilling their blood at the Homecoming dance. There are many factors affecting the health of this community. I believe lack of health education and access to health care are the primary problems. The problems of pinworms and anemia are most preventable with hygiene education and nutritional education. The high premature births and neonatal death rate can be addressed with pre-natal education and care. The ability for the mothers and care givers to access these services may be impaired because of lack of access to health care related to transportation and economics. A cultural norm in many of Hispanic families is both parents work at minimum pay jobs with no benefits, while a family member takes care of several children. This care giver is often an older person (grand parent or aunt) and often does not understand or speak English or is an adolescent that is not able to drive. Because of the noted issues accessing health care during â€Å"business† hours are impaired. It is difficult for the person that may have access to transportation and one that speaks English to arrange a day off to take the child and/or pregnant woman to their doctor appointments Because a large population of the Hispanics go to the Catholic Church getting the local priest or a trusted community involved may help with accessing the population. Information about the clinic, health education classes, and setting up a clinic in the Catholic Church on the weekend may all be options to improving health care. Health education in the schools is another way to get the message to the public. A school health fair or school projects focused on prevention may be ways to help educate the parents. Education of adolescent about birth control, pre-natal care and support are other methods to improve the health of the community. . The planning group will need to have many members of the community. Having someone from the city council, the local priest and pastor, a representative from the high school, a medical representative such as the local md, or nurse practitioner a cultural community representative and representatives of the local business would be the best task force mix. Having the community leader’s access funds to provide free transportation to the health clinics or having a mobile health clinic to access the outlying population. Another option is to have a clinic at the major employer’s place of business. All of the suggested health options will need the support and commitment of the community. As a community health nurse you can support and encourage that commitment.

Warren and Murray both supported the idea of giving women a complete education as they were in charge of creating the mindset of the new republic. These women saw education as the key to making women equal to men. In fact, in 1790, Murray wrote that women and men were equal but women lacked formal education (Casper & Davies, 2006). Abigail Adams, Warren, and Murray would continue the fight for women’s equal rights using enlightenment philosophy until their deaths. Throughout the 1800s, as the educational system grew in the United States, women’s educational opportunities also developed until women were allowed into colleges. In the latter half of the 1800s, Elizabeth Blackwell entered the University of Michigan and gained her M. D. in the 1860s. Introduction to Functions in C# In C#, a function is a way of packaging code that does something and then returns the value.  Unlike in C, C and some other languages, functions do not exist by themselves. They are part of an object-oriented approach to programming. A program to manage spreadsheets might include a sum() function as part of an object, for example. In C#, a function can be called a member function- it is a member of a class- but that terminology is left over from C. The usual name for it is a method. The Instance Method There are two types of methods: instance method and static method. This introduction covers the instance method. The example below defines a simple class and calls it Test. This example is a simple console program, so this is allowed. Usually, the first class defined in the C# file must be the form class. Its possible to have an empty class like this class Test { }, but it isnt useful. Although it looks empty, it- like all C# classes- inherits from the Object that contains it and includes a default constructor  in the main program. var t new Test(); This code works, but it wont do anything when run except create an instance t of the empty test class. Suppliers know that no matter what, the items that are necessary will be bought by customers no matter what; this gives them a chance to charge high prices and get revenue, but price ceilings by governments are what protect the customers in such situations. However, they should not go unchecked, as changes and shifts are very important based on then currently market realities. An effective price ceiling is usually below the equilibrium point; otherwise it is pointless as customers would pay the price at equilibrium which is higher than the price ceiling. Price Floors: Price floors are the opposite of price ceilings – this is the control that is brought about by either government, or cartels and groups that are formed to sell the product as a coalition with quotas. This checks how low a price can go; prices when reduce, should not reduce below this line for a certain product. In order for price floors to play the role that they are intended to play; that is, the price should not be extremely low or else the demand increases but nobody is interested in the production; the price floor should be above the equilibrium price. This means that there is a surplus of production and the demand is lesser than that at equilibrium because customers do not want to pay a higher price than that of the equilibrium; but at the same time, more producers are willing to manufacture this particular product. As a Renter: Usually, the landlords have a habit of overcharging tenants; reason being the difficulty and shortage of houses available in the same range at one point in time. In such cases, the government sets a price ceiling; which means that the tenant can be charged a price that does not go above that particular ceiling. This benefits somebody as a renter to be saved from very high rent expenses. This is normally the case with students, bachelors and people leading single lives and providing for them. In cases of students, there is a charge for living in dorms but that charge is as low as possible (minimum). As a Student: A student normally does not have a lot of money to spend on rent, tuition fee, daily expenses and transportation etc. This is usually a lot of a student to bear, especially when there is a lack of financial support from family. As a student, it is almost critical to be able ton get books and stationery and photocopies and general every day expenses. As a student, it becomes very difficult to pay for such basic things all the time; these basic things are actually necessities. Therefore, price ceilings are present in cases of necessities to make sure that not a very high price is charged for this. These ceilings are usually below the equilibrium point or else they become ineffective; because otherwise, if the price ceiling would be above the equilibrium price then this would show that despite the fact that the government has set a maximum price, the market is working at a price below that. Naturally, in this case, the demand is higher than the supply. As an Employee: Labors works in a way where employees are suppliers of labor and the organizations/producers are consumers of it for manufacturing. Equilibrium prices in this case are always a problem because the employees want a higher pay and the organizations want to pay as low as possible. There are times, mostly, when the producers exploit the employees by not hiring them unless they agree to a lower price – stricken by unemployment, most of these laborers agree to these low prices and work. However, this is unfair on the laborers; because if there is just one employer in a specific region, then they are not left with much choice and have to give in to low prices. Therefore, the government sets a minimum wage which is above the equilibrium price so that the laborer can have some advantage. Here, again, the supply is greater than the demand, but it is fair to the employees. But then again, the prices and costs depend on the worker’s competencies, skills and the general market conditions at that point in time. Consequences of Price Ceilings: Price ceilings might seem to be favorable for many parties, but it has its own consequences. Firstly, there is a reduction in quality of the good being provided – even if the product is now being sold at a lower price, but now the producers sell goods of lower quality to cover up for the lost profit margin. Also, this brings in a new phenomenon of black markets; this is where sellers sell at prices lower than the price ceilings illegally. This is illegal, but people who cannot afford higher prices resort to this to fulfill their needs. Black markets ruin the image of a country and disrupts the working of a market and making the statistics of an economy incorrect.

Graduation Speech -- Graduation Speech, Commencement Address

A wise person once said something to this effect: "Quotes are just another way of masking one's true feelings." I'd tell you the person who wrote it, but I can barely even remember it word for word. It's funny I crossed paths with this quote just days before I was informed I would be speaking at commencement. Someone or something, maybe a higher power, meant for this quote and I to meet. The irony of the whole situation is that the author's quote was turned into a quote, which is most likely the opposite of their intentions. My reasoning for bringing up this situation is simple. When first given the task of writing this speech, I was at a loss for ideas. Mr. Troll told me to begin with a quote or say something profound - a task that was a lot easier said than done. In all honesty, it was such a hard task that it kept me thinking until the night before the speech was due, which is when I actually began working on it. All of a sudden I remembered, "What about that quote that disses quotes!?" Then it hit me - take it and run. Instead of disguising my voice with fancy, long words I don't even understand, I decided to just be me. After all, me is really all I can be. I'm going to make my own quotes with the help from a few so someone can bite from my original thoughts, not vice versa. People kept telling me to find a central topic to focus on and work around. Yeah, I tried that, but of course, it didn't work. So I eventually decided to say whatever came to mind. This is how I came to recite the words, which are now flowing through the complex workings of your inner ears. Freshmen year was a blast. As soon as I walked through the doors of the hallowed halls of Kennedy, I knew all would be fine. Before entering I was told man... ...s not trying to ruin my life or make me hate him, he was only trying to mold me into a successful student. I will forever be grateful to him for doing what he did. Some call it making one tough, others call it tough love, but I call it devotion. He was so devoted to my education that he would not let me slip up. For this, I would like to say thanks. Thanks Vick! I owe you one. In conclusion, I want to say that I hope you take something away from the words I have said. If you do, great, and even if you don't, I'm not worried because it is not the end of the world. To the graduating class of 2003, I have one final tidbit to say: "We made it, and no one can take this day away from us." The very last thing I have to say is, "Thanks Mom! One day I'll be able to invest in you all that you have invested in me. I mean that both financially and emotionally. I love you!" Paul on Grace Essay

The purpose for this paper is to provide historical background on Paul and grace. I will also provide how it is applied to modern times, how it has changed my life as well as my learning goals from this paper on Paul and grace. Paul embraced God’s grace after his conversion and call and informed others about it. He expresses consistently how grace is the solitary reason that salvation is attained. Researches of articles of the subject as well as Paul’s epistles provide evidence of this. According to Paul, â€Å"by grace we are saved,† (Ephesians 2:8). Historical Information About Paul on Grace: There is no doubt that Paul was chosen by God to be the vessel to communicate His good news to others. Cornelius R. Stam a writer for www.bereanbiblesociety.org points out that Paul has more to say about grace than any other writers of the Bible. Stam says, â€Å"The Hebrew equivalent of Paul’s word for grace is found only 68 times in the whole Old Testament (which is nearly twelve times the size of Paul’s epistles) and then not always relating to God’s grace, and never to the dispensation of Grace.† In the four Gospels (nearly twice the size of Paul’s epistles) the word grace (Gr. charis) with its derivatives appears in the original only 13 times. Furthermore, in Paul’s epistles the word grace is nearly always used in association with â€Å"the dispensation of the grace of God.† Paul wrote greatly concerning grace. Each epistle signed by Paul opens with an assertion of grace and peace  "from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.† Paul’s epistles reveal that we are under grace rather than the law. In them we discover that we are â€Å"justified freely by [God’s] grace† (Rom. 3:24). He also informs us that â€Å"where sin abounded grace did much more abound† (Rom. 5:20). Paul asserts that â€Å"God is able to make all grace abound† to us in order for us to â€Å"abound to every good work† (II Cor. 9:8). â€Å"Grace† is used in the book of Acts 4 times before the raising up of Paul and 12 times afterwards. However, before his raising, the term was not used toward the dispensation of grace or toward salvation by grace. After his conversion is when the word is used often and toward the dispensation of grace and salvation by grace. According to www.gracepoints.com, â€Å"Paul was the first to refer by divine inspiration to â€Å"the dispensation of the grace of God, which is given me to you-ward† (Eph. 3:2), and to â€Å"the ministry which I have received of the Lord Jesus to testify the gospel of the grace of God† (Acts 20:24).† Before Paul, no one had ever mentioned the dispensation or the gospel of the grace of God. Above all, Paul revealed the most important doctrine that concerns our salvation. And that is that â€Å"By grace we are saved† (Eph. 2:8). Ernest L. Martin, Ph.D., asserts in an article that Paul’s definition of grace can be found on II Timothy 2:15 which says, â€Å"Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that neededth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.† In other words, we are to divide the Gospel rightly so that there is no confusion among those we teach. Martin, expresses that â€Å"Paul was speaking of the fact that only a remnant of Israelites were then accepting Christ in the proper manner and he said this remnant was by the â€Å"election of grace†. Martin also asserts that from Paul he understood that salvation requires no works of a man. This seems strange at first, but it is until one reads II Timothy 1:9 that it makes sense. II Timothy 1:9 â€Å"Who [God] hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not ac cording to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began.† †Paul is emphatic in stating that his ministry is a product of grace; he explains that his ministry is ‘according to the gift of grace which given to me according to the working of His power† Eph 3:7. The notion that Paul’s ministry is due to God’s grace is confirmed by his saying, ‘But I labored more than them all, and yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me†1 Cor 15:9-10,† www.embracehisgrace.com . In I Cor. 15:10 Paul says, â€Å"by the grace of God I am what I am. As stated before, Paul had loads to say on the subject of grace. Paul acknowledged how important grace was especially concerning his salvation. He wished grace upon the recipients of his letters at the start of his epistles as a means of letting them know he was wishing or praying good health upon them (Rediscovering Paul An Introduction to His World, Letters and Theology pg. 58)All of his epistles are proof of that. They not only affected his time as they affect contemporary life as well. Application to Contemporary Life: For Christians, Paul’s words on grace are applied in contemporary life as a reminder of how we are saved and just how good God is. The apostle Paul insists that salvation is given to us only by grace. For us to have perfect righteousness by our good works is impossible. It is Christ’s good works that count. According to www.askelm.com, â€Å"God gives us salvation by grace as a gift.† In his letter to Ephesus, Paul said, â€Å"For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God: not of works lest any man should boast,† (Ephesians 2:8). The website also explains how grace and works are completely opposites. â€Å"Rewards come by the practice of works, but mercy comes by the application of grace.† Grace is a wholesome gift that is freely given. God gives it to us constantly, especially when we deserve the total opposite. Conversely, the law is always associated with works and deeds. The breaking of law results in wages being paid—the wages of death (Romans 6:32). As Paul said, â€Å"the law entered, that the offence [sin] might abound, but where sin abounded, grace did much more abound† (Romans 5:20). No matter how much believers mess up, God’s grace frees them from its severe penalties. No matter the good deed people try to do to make things better, it is ultimately His grace that overrides it all. Knowing this relieves burdens on the numerous Christians that consistently do wrong. It is knowing how gracious God is that informs them that everything will be okay as He is in control. Christ places salvation at our reach. It is up to us to walk by faith and grab it. Christ did what no man can do and that is maintain a perfect record of righteousness. Therefo re, the Father put Christ as the substitute to account for everyone’s righteousness. He paid the debt of all to God which is why all inherit grace from Him. Once again, to Paul, salvation is exclusively from grace. â€Å"But of him are you in Christ Jesus, who of God is made UNTO US wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption,† (I Cor. 1:30) Through the acceptance of Christ and being in Him, God has made us to be in perfect wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption. He wiped the slate clean that all generations from back then to contemporary times may receive the kingdom of Heaven. Just because we are saved by His grace is no excuse to sin it up just for the fun it. Appreciating God’s grace is the best thing I can do along with do what is right to the best of my ability. There is always room to improve in my life but God’s grace lets me know that He still loves me no matter what. With Him on my side through His grace I know that I can overcome it all. Paul showed how much he valued and appreciated grace as he constantly talked about it and spread the Word to others. God was gracious enough to change Paul’s life for the better and allow him to inform others of the Gospel. He has certainly done the same for me. This is why I do my best to share the Gospel with others as much as I can. Paul reminds me that by His grace I am saved! Personal Learning Goals from Research: My personal goals from this research paper would be to keep the faith and always remember how gracious God is. I must embrace what I’ve learned more. In all that I do I must remember to keep Him first above anyone else. Finally, I must continue to inform others of the Gospel and His grace. Conclusion: In closing, Paul made it clear how valuable God’s grace is. He shared the news with everyone he could. His epistles have served as a constant reminder of this. The manager should also ensure the safety precautions required during house cleaning. Appliance repair business: This business also requires good PR and is based on repeat customers. But, the manager also need to be technically sound, and should have knowledge about repairing the specific range of product. He should be a good man manger, stick to tight schedules and ensure quality service. The manager should keep himself and his team upgraded with the newest technologies and latest changes in the product. It is a technology driven business, which requires lot of excellent technical skill set apart from the basic requirements of marketing and sales.

People are said to go out to the Argentine for vacation or business. Mostly, these books are by British authors. I cant find any information about why Argentina was once called the Argentine- what does Argentine mean that it would need the definite article? The official name of the country we call Argentina is Repà ºblica or Confederacià ³n Argentina. The country is named for the Rio de la Plata. Plata is the Spanish word for silver. In naming the country, the Latin word for silver, argentum, was chosen instead of the Spanish equivalent. The usual rule in English limits the article to countries whose names are plural or include such words as kingdom and republic. For example: the Central African Republic the Czech Republic the Dominican Republic the United Arab Emirates the United Kingdom the United States An exception to this rule is the country of Gambia. In 1964, the prime minister’s office issued a directive that the country was to be called â€Å"The Gambia† (with a capital T). The reason given was to avoid confusion with newly independent Zambia. Another reader, a US resident but a native of Ukraine, mentions her annoyance at such exchanges as this one: New Acquaintance: Where are you from? New Resident: Ukraine.†¨ New Acquaintance: Oh, the Ukraine. She doesn’t understand why people insist on prefacing Ukraine with an article. Quoted in a BBC article, Oksana Kyzyma of the Embassy of Ukraine in London asserts that Ukraine is both the conventional short and long name of the country. The region was called â€Å"the Ukraine† in English when it was part of the USSR. Then its official name was â€Å"the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic.† Now, although parts of the country are reported to be held by Russian forces, Ukraine continues to be known internationally as Ukraine, without an article. Note: Another good reason to leave off the article with Ukraine is the fact that neither the Ukrainian nor the Russian language has a definite article. Of course, many speakers are not going to observe the conventions. One possible explanation for the fact that some countries acquire an unofficial the is that the country name is closely associated with a geographical feature. In English, the names of geographical features such as mountain ranges, island groups, rivers, seas, oceans, and canals are prefaced with the definite article. For example: the Alps the Canaries the Rhà ´ne the Indian Ocean the Suez Canal the Plata Perhaps speakers who say â€Å"the Argentine† associate the country with the river for which it is named.
